February 6th-10th

This week in Language Arts we will be finishing up our sequencing unit as well as our procedural writing pieces.  Students are creating a procedural picture book to share with their grade one book buddies.  We have also been working through our Solar Systems unit in Science by completing stations in the library.  We should be finishing these by the end of the week or beginning of next week!  We have ended our P.E.I. unit in Social Studies and will be continuing with our next unit on culture.  Grade six students have recently completed a geometry unit in Math and we have started fractions over the past week.

Next Tuesday is Valentine's Day and students are not obligated, but are welcome to bring in treats and Valentine cards to hand out.  If you child is bringing in Valentine's to hand out, please make sure that they have enough for everyone in our class to avoid any hurt feelings :) (23 students in our 5/6 class).

Have a great week everyone!

Happy New Year!!! January 3-6 2012

Hopefully everyone had a wonderful, relaxing holiday!  I know I did, however it is always nice to get back into a routine.  This week we will be continuing with our Science unit 'Changes in Matter' and will be having a test on this section within the next week.  Our class along with Mrs. Turner's class did an amazing job of their Christmas Around the World country projects!  We were more than impressed by the amount of work that students put into these!  Well done!  Also, thank-you to parents for coming in to watch, supplying materials and treats!  In Language Arts, we will be introducing inferring as a reading strategy and will also be starting explanatory writing.  Student's have started writing short pieces on their New Year's Resolutions today and there are some really thoughtful ones!  In grade 6 math, we are starting Unit 4 which introduces angles and polygons.  I will be begin sending home 'Math Chat' again for this unit every Tuesday night.

I have sent a book order home today and I am asking that all orders be returned to me by Tuesday January 10th.

Have a great week everyone and all the best to each of you in 2012! :)

Just a reminder that our school Christmas concert will be happening on Wednesday December 7th at 1:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

We will be working on our Christmas country projects throughout the week and students are encouraged to bring in their backboards if they have not done so already (one per group).

Enjoy the week!

November 21-25

This week is a busy week ahead!  We will be continuing to work on descriptive writing during our Writer's Workshop as well as starting our new Science unit on Changes in Matter.  I am excited to start reading groups again as I have been meeting with students individually for the past few weeks during Reader's Workshop and I think we are all ready to get back into our groups and discuss!  Grade 6 students will be learning how to multiply decimals as we continue through Unit 3 in Math.  We will also be starting our Christmas around the world theme soon with the holidays approaching!  More information to follow :)

Students and parents are reminded that report cards will go home this Thursday November, 24 and that there is no school for students on Friday November, 25 as it is a Professional Development day for teachers.

Have a great week everyone!

October 27

Just a reminder that parent-teacher interviews are quickly approaching as they are being held on November 8th & 9th at our school.  I have sent home a interview time request form, hoping that parents can fill this out with approximate times that would work for them and I will do my best to accommodate you! :)  Please send it back to me with your child once you have it filled out.

On Monday, October 31st, students will be allowed to bring in Halloween treats if they would like to.  They do not HAVE to, but I will be giving them some time to have treats and play some games.  I hope everyone has a great weekend and a safe and happy Halloween!! :)
